Product Description

The only dumbbell system that can expand to meet your strength needs, PowerBlock dumbbells are the most versatile and effective exercise tool ever developed for strength training. PowerBlocks work intuitively. Rather than requiring you to buy a room full of dumbbells, PowerBlocks act just like a weight stack at the gym, with a weight handle that fits inside the first weight, which fits inside the second, which fits inside the third, etc. When you want to change weights, you simply move the weight selector pin into the appropriate slot and you're set. As you lift the core, all the weights above the selector pin are lifted at the same time, turning your 3-pound dumbbell into a 6-pound dumbbell, or your 6-pound dumbbell into a 12-pound dumbbell. Not only is the system remarkably easy to use, but it's also cost- and space-efficient, as a single pair of dumbbells can do the work of dozens.

This pair of 45x5 dumbbells, for instance, adjusts from 5 to 45 pounds in 5-pound increments (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 pounds), in effect doing the job of 18 individual weights. Even better, the weights are more compact and balanced than traditional dumbbells, with a padded handle that protects people with weak wrists. Best of all, the free weights are terrific whether you're trying to build muscle mass, firm and tone your physique, or get rid of unwanted body fat. The adjustable set offers a maximum weight of 45 pounds per hand and carries a limited 10-year warranty.

Excellent product. Cheaper and way better than SelectTech

I purchased the PowerBlock dumbbells after returning the SelectTech dumbbells. The SelectTechs are cumbersome, the weight plates feel loose, and you have to dial two dials to select one weight. Furthermore, they are over $100 more expensive than the PowerBlocks.

On the plus side for the PowerBlocks:
1) They take up very little space for an adjustable dumbbell
2) They feel solid
3) While not cheap, they are much cheaper than the SelectTech dumbbells
4) You can do over the head tricep extensions using both weights or one using the handles on the bottom
5) Selecting the weights is a one step process for each weight
6) They are upgradable with a heavier handle option and a barbell option

On the minus side:
1) Alligning the pins to select the weight is a bit more difficult with the weights on the ground. The stand or a table top would alleviate this problem.

Overall, I'm pleased with the PowerBlocks and definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a quality, adjustable weight dumbbell.
Not a bad workout...

I bought these dumbbells from a local dealer instead of Amazon because of a sale. I had been looking at the Bowflex select-type of dumbbells as well as these. After trying them out at the store, I was sold. They are easy to manipulate and sturdy in construction. One would think that a square dumbbell would get in the way of doing exercises--this is NOT the case. The handle is in the middle of the box and the side tubes are padded for comfort.

I just finished an hour long dumbbell workout a few minutes ago and it was everything I expected: bench press, military press, bent over rows, seated curls, triceps extensions, dumbbell deadlifts, upright rows, dumbbell squats, etc... All of these exercises were performed using this product. No problems encountered at all.
Most useful item in my workout room

I have a large home gym with around $30k of equipment. This $400 set is my favorite and most used item. I have one set for me and one for my wife and they fit neatly on the stand. They are very easy to use and are the most comfortable dumbbells I've ever used due to the padded grips. I admit that I had my doubts at first. I was worried they the grip wouldn't hold up, the weight selection pins would bend or the weights would fall on my head. After 4 years of regular use, my fears were unfound. The grip is intact and the weight stacks are absolutely stable. I've tried the newer adjustable dumbbells on the market, but this is still my favorite. The weight selection seem much more secure than the nautilus, and the grip is more comfortable. It's my opinion that these are still the best adjustable dumbbells out there.
An excellent fitness investment! Very clever design!

I like these much more than I thought I would. They are very easy to use, and very well balanced. Now I don't have to listen to that crappy gym music, and I can lift while the coffee brews. YEAH!

btw-instead of spending an extra $140 for an elite set (2.5lb increments), I purchased a $20. ADJUSTABLE WRIST WEIGHT set. This gives me .5, 1.5, 2.5lb increments.

excellent weights

I actually purchased the home gym package C directly from powerblock and not the product shown here. the gym package consists of the 5-90 elite dumbells, the stand and a weight bench. these items were shipped promptly in six seperate packages. the stand and weight bench required a little assembly, but nothing too drastic. the stand was a little bit of a hassle as there were a number of small screws and nuts and that had to be put in. the bench was mostly pre-assembled, but had a couple parts that had to be put in. i highly recommend getting the stand. not only is it a great place to store the dumbells, but it makes changing the weights much easier.
changing the amount of weight is very easy, and just involves pulling the "pin" out and sliding it in to select the desired weight. the dumbells are color coded, so you can quickly see the amount of weight you are choosing. using the "pin," the weights are changed in ten pound increments. there are "adder weights" that come with the elite set, each of which is 2.5 pounds. if you use the adder weights, you can change the amount of weight in 5 pound increments. however, the adder weights take a little longer to manipulate as you have to pull the central core out and slide the weights out. i can change the weight using the pin in literally 2 seconds. however, the adder weights take about 10 seconds to change. i have decided to just keep the adder weights in the weights and not change them out. i'm find just changing the amount of weight in 10 pound increments.
one other thing about these weights. when i first got them and set them up, i wasn't putting the adder weights in correctly (it's a long story, but essentially i put one of the cores in upside down, causing the adder weights to slide out when i didn't want them to). i called customer support and someone answered on about the third ring. there was no voice mail and no waiting while i listened to elevator music. i asked to talk to someone in technical support, and the guy that answered told me he could help me. he was very helpful and we worked through the problem (which had been my fault in the first place). this is probably the best technical support i've experienced and MILES above the usual support i recieve for computer software/products.
in short, i'm very happy with my purchase. this is a high quality product made in the USA. i'm going to get a lot of use out of these and expect to use them for the rest of my life. they seem to take a lot of pride in what they produce. highly recommended...
